Hello from Cape Town!

Hello Everyone!
I landed in Cape Town safely (a week ago today...sorry it took me so long to write) It's beautiful! I am living in a house with the rest of my outreach team, and me and 4 other girls share a tiny room with 3 mattress pushed together to make one giant bed that takes up the whole room! It's so great! We had the other South Africa groups over for Christmas which was fun. It was really different not being at home but it was still fun. Jesus still got born. We are working in a township here called "Masiphumelele" which is walking distance from our house. It's a shanty village, with some parts nicer than others...but none of the parts are "livable" in an American mindset. Two days ago we toured this part of the village called "The Wetlands" which is this neighborhood that gets flooded everytime it rains because it's all on sand. There was garbage everywhere and it smelled like a sewer everywhere you went. I couldn't beleive people lived in there, but everyone we talked to was full of love and excited to talk with us and invite us into their homes. God is really doing stuff with the people living here. My team and I are planning a VBS type thing that should start up next week with some of the kids in the area. Their school doesn't start again until the 21st so we are hoping to keep it up until then because there are kids everywhere with tons of energy that are wanting tons of love. Whereever you go kids follow you and hang on you and want to play with you. It's so much fun. The kids here share better then any kids I have ever seen. You will never see a kid with 2 rollerblades on, the ALWAYS just have one so that another kid can have one too. And they always give other kids turns without even being told. It's amazing to watch. For the past week we have just been observing the area and talking and builidng relationships with the people there. It's been really good getting familer with the place and more comfortable with it too. It's going to be really good starting up ministry in the township these next few weeks & I'm really anxious to see what God does through us!

I hope you all had a great Christmas and have an awesome New Year!

I LOVE YOU ALL!

Picture of my outreach group!

This is my outreach group. Starting from the left going around in Jude, Lizzi, Me, Kath, Melodie, Shanna (their nanny), Nelson, Jed and Noah!

NOVEMBER 23RD!!

Hello! :)

We got our outreach groups! Mine is AMAZING! We will be living and working with our outreach group in South Africa. Our outreach group has 6 students in it. We have a married couple as out "student leaders" named Jed and Melody. They have a 1 year old and a 5 year old. Name Noah and Jude. So that will be a lot of fun having them! Then we have Lizzi as another one of our student leaders. She is great too, she graduated from college last spring. And then we have Nelson from Montana who is my age too. AND Kath is in my group, who is my best friend here! So it is going to be a good group and we have similar interests and I think we will be doing some awesome things together! We leave for South Africa on Dec. 20th and arrive there on the 23rd! It is going to be so weird being there for Christmas!
This last week me and Kaths bed got infested with termites. I'm talking thousands and thousands of termites. It was terrible! I have never been so grossed out in my enitre life. We're all clean now though, so I can sleep comfortably again! :)
The last few weeks our topics have been "prayer and intercession" then "the romans" and this last week we talked about "the character and nature of God". For prayer and intercession we had Burn 24/7 come in. They were very intense and a lot of heeling and other crazy things happened. It was really good though, and defianatly something I had never experienced before. For the Romans our school leader, Bethany's dad came in, John Gillespie. He made the bible really come alive and I was really excited to read it, which was definatley new for me! And this last week we had the VP of DTS come in, Maureen Menard and she talked about the Character and Nature of God, which ended up being more talking about the trinity. I learned a lot about that as well! I have learned so much this last month and I am excited to spread what I have been learning both when I go to South Africa and when I come back home!
Thank you for your prayers and support again! If you can all keep praying for finances this next week and for my outreach team that would be amazing! I hope you have a GREAT thanksgiving! I miss you all!

Hello Friends!
I am just starting my 5th week out of 12 here in Hawaii! I cannot believe how much I can grow and learn each and everyday. It's crazy! This week our speakers name in Joe Ferrante. Joe is talking about the father heart of God this week. He has been an amazing speaker (along with everyother speaker we have had) and I am so amazed with how much I can learn and start to live out from what he says everytime he speaks. Later this week we are going to learn who is in our Outreach teams and what our focus will be! Out of the 21 of us going to Cape Town we will be splitting up into 3 outreach teams. I'm so excited to know who is in my team so that we can start to know who exactly we will be with for those three months and compare our passions and figure out what we will be doing! VERY EXCITING!! I am excited to report to you what exactly I will be doing once I get there! Apparently there are kids that need love everywhere so no matter where I am or what I am doing I will get to be with them, which was excellant news for me! :)
Last friday night we had a dodgeball tournament here at the on base. My teams name was "Team Pretty." We wore tie-dye. I am sad to report that we lost all three games and it was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. All in all it was a lot of fun though too. My favorite thing here is community outreach on Tuesday nights. This is when we just go out into the community here in Kona and just try to connect with people. It has been really fun so far and I have met a lot of cool people. I've been amazed at how easy it actually is to just go out and talk to people anywhere and be able to connect God into their lives. You sould all try it out :)
Well that is all for now!
Thanks for all the prayers that have obviously been working!! I love and miss you all!

October 13th Update

Aloha Friend!
The first two weeks in Hawaii have been incredible! I feel like my faith and knowledge about God have already doubled since I have been here, and it's only been two weeks! I have met some amazing people, some of which I would already call some of my closest friends! I have class Monday through Friday which consists of listening to speakers come in and teach us how to bring heaven to earth and spread the love of God. We also are doing "community outreach" here in Kona every Wednesday night (or whenever else we may please) where we go out into the city and pray for whomever we feel called to pray for. Being here is definatley taking me out of my usual comfort zone, but it's been super good to learn how to branch out and be able to tell anyone how awesome God is!
We decided our outreaches on friday. My DTS is going to South Africa, Boulder Colorado, and New York. I will be going to Cape Town, South Africa, and probably the Comoros Islands of of Mozambique. In Cape Town I will be working in some schools there teaching them various things including the gospel, along with working in some AIDS hospice's in the area. If I go to the Comoros Islands that will be a week long trip with 4 or 5 other students and staff. This island is mostly muslim and only has 2 christians. We will have to be under the rador there because christians get persecuted but we will get the opportunity to teach what we know to the other two christians on the island so that they can be lights to spread the gospel to more!
I am so happy to be here, I know God has so much in store for me and the rest of my DTS. Thank you so much for your support and prayers! The prayers have definatley been working because everything has been going to well! I love and miss you all!
